According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has stated that the former Nigerian president lost the 2015 general election because he allegedly failed to follow critical advice given to him during his time in office.
Mbaka made the claim while revisiting past political events surrounding the election that brought an end to Jonathan’s presidency.
According to him, key decisions taken—or not taken—by the former president played a significant role in shaping the political outcome of that period, which eventually led to his defeat at the polls.
Mbaka specifically claimed that he had advised Jonathan to remove the then Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, who supervised the 2015 general election process.
He alleged that the recommendation was based on concerns he had at the time regarding the electoral process and its management.
The cleric maintained that had Jonathan acted on the advice, the political trajectory of the election might have been different.
His remarks revisited a controversial aspect of Nigeria’s electoral history, where the conduct and leadership of electoral officials were widely debated in the public space.
The cleric made the comments in a viral video while addressing earlier statements in which he suggested that the insecurity situation in Nigeria had political undertones.
In that earlier position, Mbaka had claimed that certain political actors were allegedly attempting to destabilize the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, drawing parallels with past political transitions in the country.
His latest clarification appeared to expand on his earlier assertions, linking historical political events with his interpretation of current national challenges.
The remarks added to ongoing discussions surrounding the intersection of religion, politics, and national governance.
The statement, however, generated widespread reactions on social media, with many users revisiting Mbaka’s previous political prophecies and interventions.
Some commentators linked his remarks to the broader narrative surrounding Jonathan’s 2015 election loss, while others questioned the role of religious leaders in political decision-making.
The debate reflected long-standing divisions in public opinion regarding the influence of clerics in electoral matters and governance in Nigeria.
The renewed attention also reignited conversations about the credibility and impact of prophetic declarations in national politics.
In the same video, Mbaka reiterated his position, insisting that Jonathan’s defeat was a result of what he described as a failure of judgment.
He argued that the former president did not act on what he termed “the advice of a man of God,” suggesting that such inaction contributed to the political outcome of the election.
According to him, the refusal to implement the recommendation regarding the electoral commission leadership was a major turning point in the events that followed.
His comments were framed as a reflection on past political decisions and their consequences in shaping Nigeria’s leadership transitions.
He said, “He failed because he disobeyed the advice of a man of God. I told him to remove Jega, that Jega had already betrayed him but he refused to remove Jega.”
