President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted to claim that he’s planning to give Nigeria another name.
Tinubu reacted in a statement that was published on the official X account of Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
This came after it was reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to change the name of Nigeria to United State of Nigeria and to also abolish Sharia law in the Northern part of the country.
In the statement that surfaced online, it was stated that the report is false. Bayo Onanuga stated that those peddling the report are mischief makers. He urged the general public to disregard the report.
According to the presidential aide on his official X account;
“Nigerians should ignore the viral story in its entirety because the purveyors of the fake news are agents of destabilization and merchants of disorder”.
