A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Zainab Buba-Galadima, has clarified that her father, Alhaji Buba Galadima, was never formally part of the party, despite occasionally participating in its activities and maintaining political interactions with its members.
According to a report by Nigerian Tribune published on Saturday, May 30, 2026, Zainab explained during an interview that her father’s involvement with ADC-related events was limited to observation and informal engagement. She stressed that although he attended certain gatherings, including a party convention, this was due to his relationships with political associates present at the event rather than any official membership in the party.
She further addressed public speculation about potential political disagreements within her family, stating that both she and her father are entitled to independently choose their political affiliations. Zainab emphasized that her own commitment remains with the ADC, regardless of her father’s reported alignment with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The ADC member also expressed optimism that opposition parties in Nigeria could eventually set aside differences and work together ahead of the 2027 general elections, possibly by rallying behind a shared platform or consensus candidate. She argued that such unity could strengthen their chances of achieving meaningful political change at the national level.
Zainab reiterated that her decision to join the ADC was driven by her belief in the party’s ideology, particularly its emphasis on transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. She added that the party provides space for young people to actively participate in shaping national development and political discourse.
Responding to concerns that her political stance might be influenced by family loyalty, she firmly rejected such assumptions, insisting that she operates as an independent political actor guided by her personal convictions and principles.
She summed up her position by stating, “He (my father) never joined ADC. He was never a member. He was just observing, so he was never a member.”
