According to a report published by Punch on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide, has promised to run a government that is inclusive, transparent, and focused on the welfare of the people if he wins the 2027 governorship election.
Babajide made the pledge while speaking with journalists shortly after securing the party’s ticket. He explained that his vision for Ogun State is built on accountability, citizen participation, and policies designed to improve the lives of residents across the state.
The town planning professional stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved when government decisions are made openly and citizens are actively involved in governance. According to him, public institutions should operate in a way that allows residents to contribute to decision-making processes, particularly on issues relating to the allocation of resources and execution of development projects.
Reflecting on his emergence as the party’s candidate, Babajide said his nomination was the result of broad support within the APM. He noted that party members reached a consensus based on their shared desire to offer Ogun residents an alternative leadership approach.
He added that many supporters had remained committed to the party’s vision and were eager to see a different model of governance take shape in the state.
Speaking on the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election, Babajide dismissed suggestions that Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, represents a major obstacle to his ambition. He maintained that electoral contests are a normal feature of democracy and should be viewed as healthy competition rather than a source of concern.
Babajide said his administration would be committed to fairness and equal opportunities for all residents, regardless of their political beliefs or social background.
“My administration will ensure that every citizen counts, irrespective of background or political affiliation. My plan is people-centred governance where everybody will be respected and connected,” he stated.
