A report by Daily Post dated Saturday, May 30, 2026, indicates that the Court of Appeal has supported a previous decision made by the High Court that voided the ward, local government, and state congresses organized by the Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These congresses resulted in the establishment of an executive committee headed by Tony Okocha, who is associated with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Okocha took his case to the appellate court to contest the High Court’s ex parte ruling, claiming that the lower court did not have the authority to prevent the party from holding its congresses.
Nonetheless, in a ruling made by Justice Elfreida Williams-Dawodu, the Court of Appeal confirmed the High Court’s right to handle the issue and rejected the appeal.
The appellate court determined that the appeal was not valid, thereby upholding the previous order concerning the congresses.
This ruling is anticipated to affect the ongoing leadership conflict within the Rivers APC, as stakeholders await further legal actions.
