In a video shared by Symfoni TV, Baba-Ahmed—speaking after aligning with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)—said he initially supported the idea that power should rotate to Southern Nigeria in 2023. He disclosed that he had originally planned to contest a different office in Kaduna State before revising his plans.
He recounted that he was outside the country when Obi contacted him with the offer to be his running mate. At the time, he said many politicians were reluctant to associate with Obi, viewing him as a politically uncertain choice. Nevertheless, Baba-Ahmed said he accepted out of a sense of duty, emphasizing the need for fairness and national unity.
He added that during the campaign, he made efforts to address internal challenges within the movement, including tensions that could have deepened divisions between Northern and Southern supporters.
According to him, had his recommendations been fully implemented, the election outcome might have been different and Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not have emerged victorious.
Despite his reflections, Baba-Ahmed stated that he is not driven by personal ambition to become president but remains open to serving if given the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.
In his words: “If my advice had been followed, Tinubu would not be in office today.”
