In a recent interview shared by Arise TV, Member of the ADC National Legislators Forum, Kasimu Maigari, has emphasized the importance of resilience and commitment in Nigeria’s evolving opposition politics, particularly in relation to the actions of Peter Obi.
He stated during the interview that, “You have to stand and fight, that is what makes you a true politician and opposition leader.” Maigari argued that the current political climate requires strong-willed leaders who can withstand pressure, internal disputes, and external interference without abandoning their platforms. He noted that challenges such as litigation, party disagreements, and political intimidation are part of the democratic process and should be confronted head-on.
According to him, frequent movement between political parties may signal a lack of endurance and could weaken public confidence in opposition figures seeking national leadership. He maintained that credibility is built not only on popularity but also on the ability to remain steadfast during periods of uncertainty.
He further explained that enduring internal party struggles provides an opportunity to strengthen democratic institutions and demonstrate capacity for governance. In his view, opposition leaders must inspire confidence by showing they can navigate adversity while maintaining focus on national development goals.
Maigari concluded by urging political actors to prioritize discipline, unity, and resilience as key pillars for building a credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
