Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission has raised serious concerns over what he believed was political impunity in the announcement of the defection of Kingsley Chinda from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X account on Tuesday June 2nd, 2026 he pointed out that while the announcement was made today being Tuesday June 2nd, the letter was dated April 23rd, 2026.
Kingsley Chinda, who served as the minority leader in the house of representatives, was announced as the Rivers State APC gubernatorial candidate following the resignation of governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The move, which triggered massive public reactions, was described as largely influenced by external actors. However, Chidi Odinkalu in his arguments, believed that the move was perculiar to the APC as witnessed in the recent announcement.
