
Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Surajudeen Arisukuna, has reportedly passed away after a brief illness, according to sources close to the cleric and members of the Muslim community.
Sources told ALORE TV that the respected cleric died on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where he had been receiving medical treatment. It was gathered that Sheikh Arisukuna had battled an illness for some time and was previously flown abroad for specialist treatment.
Following medical care overseas, he reportedly returned to Nigeria after his condition improved.
However, the cleric was said to have suffered a relapse in recent days and was admitted to LUTH for further treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was reported to have passed away on Tuesday.
Sheikh Arisukuna was widely known as a respected Islamic preacher whose teachings and public engagements earned him admiration across the Muslim community. He was also recognised for his close relationship with prominent Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate. The pair were often seen together at religious, cultural and social events over the years.
As news of his reported death spread across social media, tributes began pouring in from followers, religious leaders, celebrities and admirers, many describing him as a humble scholar, a mentor and a committed preacher who dedicated his life to the propagation of Islam. At the time of filing this report, members of his family had yet to issue an official statement, while funeral arrangements were expected to be announced in line with Islamic rites.
