Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, has praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti for naming the newly commissioned Umuahia Bus Terminal after Professor Nnenna Oti, describing the gesture as a celebration of integrity and courage in public service.
Okutepa made the remarks in a statement shared through his verified X account on Thursday after reports emerged that the transport facility in Umuahia had been dedicated to Professor Oti.
She served as the returning officer during the 2023 Abia State governorship election, which produced Alex Otti as governor.
The legal practitioner commended both Governor Otti and Professor Oti, stating that the recognition reflected the importance of honesty and accountability in leadership.
According to him, Professor Oti demonstrated uncommon bravery and professionalism during the election process despite the pressure and controversies often associated with major political contests in the country.
He further noted that Nigeria’s democratic institutions would become stronger if public officials remained committed to transparency, truthfulness, and ethical conduct while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
Okutepa stressed that individuals who uphold integrity in difficult situations deserve public recognition and encouragement.
In his post, the senior lawyer openly expressed admiration for Professor Oti’s role during the election and applauded Governor Otti for honoring her contribution.
“What else can I add than to thank and congratulate Prof Mrs Nnenna Oti for standing tall where other professors fell flat at the sight of Naira and Dollars. Dr Alex Otti thank you too for recognizing integrity,” he wrote.
The naming of the bus terminal has continued to generate reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising the decision as a symbolic acknowledgment of integrity and fairness in the country’s electoral process and democratic system.
