In a recent interview shared by News Central TV, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr Sam Amadi, has raised alarm over what he describes as a deliberate and systematic effort to undermine opposition political parties in Nigeria.
Speaking against the backdrop of the Supreme Court ruling that restored the David Mark-led executive of the African Democratic Congress, Dr Amadi argued that the recurring leadership disputes tearing through Nigerian parties are not accidental. He pointed to a troubling pattern where individuals are financially empowered to challenge legitimate party structures and project themselves as factional leaders through media appearances.
“It’s easy to pay one or two people or to encourage them to say I am the chairman of ADC or APC or any other party,” he said.
Dr Amadi noted that once such a claim is made before the cameras, it quickly assumes a life of its own, creating the illusion of legitimacy where none exists. He described the phenomenon as self-fulfilling, warning that Nigeria’s judiciary and INEC have both failed to provide the principled guardrails needed to check such manipulation.
