A report from The Nation published on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, reveals that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, together with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other governors from the South-West, will officially inaugurate the newly upgraded Premier Hotel in Ibadan on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
This ceremony signifies the conclusion of a significant redevelopment effort undertaken by Odu’a Investment Company to restore the historic establishment and convert it into a modern hospitality center.
President Tinubu is anticipated to be the Special Guest of Honour, while Governor Makinde will take on the role of Chief Host.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State and chair of the South-West Governors’ Forum, will serve as the Lead Host.
Other governors likely to attend the event include Dapo Abiodun from Ogun State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa from Ondo State, Abiodun Oyebanji from Ekiti State, and Ademola Adeleke from Osun State.
Located on Mokola Hill in Ibadan, the Premier Hotel has stood as a significant landmark in the city for over sixty years.
The former Western Region Government established the hotel through the Western Nigeria Development Corporation as part of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s comprehensive economic and industrial development plan in the
Commissioned in 1963, it was initially known as the WNTV/WTBS Hotel, created to facilitate the activities of Western Nigeria Television and the Western Nigeria Television Service.
It also offered lodging to government officials, business leaders, and international guests.
At that time, the hotel was among the first modern high-rise accommodations outside Lagos and represented the Western Region’s commitment to modernization and economic advancement.
Throughout the years, Premier Hotel has welcomed many notable individuals, including presidents, governors, diplomats, and entertainers, solidifying its status as a major destination in Ibadan.
After transitioning from WNTV Hotel to Premier Hotel, Odu’a Investment Company, the successor to the Western Nigeria Development Corporation, took over its management.
The comprehensive renovation is expected to restore the hotel’s legacy and enhance its position as a top hospitality and tourism location in the South-West region.
