According to a report by Vanguard on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of continuing to interfere in the internal affairs of the party despite his reported association with other political platforms.
The party alleged that Kwankwaso’s continued involvement in its affairs has persisted even after his political activities and public alignment with other interests outside the NNPP structure.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi. In the statement, the NNPP addressed what it described as ongoing attempts to influence the party’s internal structure and decision-making processes, insisting that such actions were inconsistent with Kwankwaso’s current political positioning.
The party maintained that its internal affairs should be managed solely by its recognized leadership and registered members.
According to the NNPP, Senator Kwankwaso has continued to exercise influence within the party through individuals it described as loyalists who were allegedly left behind following his exit from active participation in the party’s mainstream operations.
The party claimed that these individuals have remained active within its structure and are being used to maintain indirect influence over its activities, despite Kwankwaso’s apparent disengagement from the party’s formal processes.
The party further alleged that Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano State has declined significantly in recent times.
It claimed that several of his key political associates had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development it suggested had weakened his political base in the state.
The NNPP stated that these movements reflected shifting political alignments within Kano and indicated a reduction in his previously strong support network.
The NNPP also extended its accusations to include elder statesman Buba Galadima, alleging that both he and Kwankwaso had betrayed the trust of the party’s founding members.
The party claimed that their actions had created internal tensions and contributed to efforts aimed at destabilising its leadership structure.
It further accused them of attempting to regain control of the party despite their current political affiliations and activities outside the NNPP framework.
The statement maintained that the alleged actions were part of ongoing efforts to influence the direction of the party from outside its official structures.
The NNPP insisted that such attempts were inconsistent with the principles of internal party discipline and democratic organisation.
He said, “Kwankwaso and Galadima betrayed the trust of the founding members of the NNPP and have not stopped manipulations to still hijack the party.”
