United States Senator Bernie Sanders has forcefully declared his opposition to a new legislative proposal currently moving through Congress, warning that it is a deceptive maneuver designed to further entrench Israel within the American military-industrial complex.
According to a report by Al Jazeera on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Independent senator from Vermont blasted the measure, which has been quietly embedded within the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Sanders argues that the provision seeks to mask the true extent of U.S. military funding to Israel by routing it through domestic defense manufacturing programs.
Taking to the social media platform X, Sanders directly accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of collaborating with U.S. lawmakers to bypass growing public outrage over foreign military spending.
“Netanyahu knows Americans are sick of funding Israel’s wars. So now he’s working with Congress to hide military aid inside Pentagon co-production deals,” Sanders wrote.
Supporters of the proposal have framed the measure as a restructuring that would technically reduce direct U.S. foreign aid.
However, Sanders explicitly warned that the policy would achieve the exact opposite, deepening the financial burden on American taxpayers while cementing long-term military ties between the two nations.
By embedding foreign assistance inside the Pentagon’s joint-production contracts, the legislation would systematically obscure the actual volume of American capital being funneled to Israel, making the funding far less transparent to the public.
Vowing to mount a aggressive legislative fight against the clause as the broader defense budget is debated, Sanders added:
“Not gonna happen!”
The controversial provision has triggered an unusual wave of pushback from across the political spectrum, uniting progressive Democrats and libertarian-leaning Republicans who are increasingly skeptical of unchecked foreign military commitments.
