According to a report by LEADERSHIP Newspaper on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has advised the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship consensus candidate in the state, Bimbo Adekanbi, to avoid carrying forward his political rivalries if eventually elected, urging him instead to focus on building a distinct and independent leadership style.
Makinde made the remarks during the party’s Presidential and Governorship Primary Election exercise, where he also used the opportunity to speak on governance, political maturity, and continuity in public service delivery.
According to the governor, leadership is not without flaws, stressing that every public office holder is bound to make errors while in service. He noted that what matters most is the ability of incoming leaders to concentrate on governance rather than being distracted by political divisions or personal disputes.
He specifically urged Adekanbi not to adopt the political grievances or conflicts associated with his administration, but to chart a fresh course if given the mandate.
“Don’t inherit my political enemies. Chart your own path. I am only human and I make mistakes,” Makinde said, encouraging the governorship hopeful to rise above partisan hostilities.
Makinde further advised the candidate to focus on consolidating existing achievements in the state while also working to improve service delivery and expand development initiatives for the benefit of residents. He emphasized that governance should remain people-centred, with continuous improvement as a guiding principle.
“Make sure you build on what we have done so far for the good of the people,” he added.
The governor also reflected on his administration’s policy direction under the “Omituntun” development agenda, describing it as a progressive framework that has guided governance in Oyo State across his two terms in office. He expressed confidence that future phases of the initiative would further strengthen development outcomes in the state.
“You have seen Omituntun 1.0 in my first term, and Omituntun 2.0 in my second term. Omituntun 3.0 is on the way, and I believe Bimbo Adekanbi will deliver even better results,” he stated.
