According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday 28th May 2026, former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring his intention to contest the Delta Central senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, Omo-Agege said his decision came after weeks of consultations with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders, as well as reflection on the future of governance in Delta State and Nigeria.
He described the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a “people-driven platform” committed to inclusion, accountability, and grassroots participation, adding that it offers a better structure for political reform.
The former lawmaker, who lost the APC Delta Central senatorial primary, said the outcome influenced his decision to switch parties and re-enter the race under a new political platform.
He also referenced engagements with prominent political figures including Peter Obi, Seriake Dickson, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, noting that their perspectives strengthened his confidence in the NDC.
Omo-Agege criticized governance in Delta State, pointing to infrastructural decay, unemployment, and what he described as poor management of public resources despite large federal allocations.
He pledged that, if elected senator, he would focus on job creation, infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, education reform, and stronger representation for Delta Central at the National Assembly.
He further called on youths, women, and community leaders to actively participate in the 2027 elections, stressing voter registration and civic engagement as key to political change.
Omo-Agege concluded that his move to the NDC represents a commitment to “restoring accountability and returning governance to the people.”
