Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has generated widespread reactions on social media following comments he made about his father’s possible role in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and his relationship with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bashir made the remarks through his official X handle on Thursday, May 28, 2026, while responding to conversations surrounding ministerial appointments under the current administration. His comments quickly sparked debate online, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions about the political situation and the relationship between the former Kaduna governor and the APC-led government.
Reacting to the issue, Bashir suggested that even if his father had eventually secured a ministerial appointment in President Tinubu’s cabinet, he would not have remained in office for long.In his post, Bashir wrote, “Maybe, maybe not. One thing I know for certain is that, El-Rufai would have immediately resigned if he had gotten the ministerial position.”
Nasir El-Rufai, who served as Kaduna State governor for two terms, played a prominent role in the APC during the 2023 presidential election campaign that brought President Tinubu to power. However, political discussions around him intensified after he was nominated for a ministerial position but was eventually not confirmed for appointment.
Since then, comments associated with the former governor and his political allies have continued to attract public attention, especially as conversations about internal party dynamics and future political alignments gain momentum.
Bashir El-Rufai’s latest remarks have further fueled discussions about the state of the ruling party and the relationship between key political figures ahead of future elections.
