According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing his decision to recent political developments within the party in Delta State.
The former lawmaker announced his departure in a statement released on Thursday, May 22, 2026, through his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh.
According to Omo-Agege, extensive consultations with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders led him to conclude that remaining in the APC would no longer serve his political ambitions or the interests of the people he represents.
He stressed that pursuing the development of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria would be more effective outside the ruling party.
In a resignation letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, the former senator expressed dissatisfaction with the current situation in the party.
He stated that he could not continue to stay in a political platform where he lacked the opportunity to promote and defend the interests of his constituents effectively.
Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, nevertheless appreciated the APC for giving him the opportunity to serve in several leadership positions during his membership of the party.
He also requested that his name be removed from all party membership records and communication groups associated with the APC.
Despite leaving the party, the former senator assured his supporters that he remains committed to active political participation and public service.
He promised to continue working for the progress and welfare of Delta Central, Delta State, and the country at large through other political engagements outside the APC.
