The pain is still raw for Evangelist Mrs. Jane Mmerechi Ekubo-Okwaraeke. Weeks after laying her son to rest in Arochukwu, Abia State, the mother of late actor Alex Ekubo has opened up in a deeply personal tribute.
Her words were first shared with mourners through the funeral pamphlet at his burial ceremony.
Alex Ekubo was buried on June 18. The 40-year-old Nollywood actor died on May 11, 2026, after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
In her message, titled _“A Tribute to My Exceptional Son – I Love You Till Tomorrow”_, Mrs. Ekubo-Okwaraeke didn’t hold back. She called Alex her joy and pride, and admitted she still waits for his phone calls that will never come.
“Chief Ikuku Oma, thank you for being my joy and my pride,” she wrote. “I am still longing for your calls, chats, care, unconditional love, your gist, your encouragement, your advice, our corporate prayers, and our praise and worship sessions.”
To her, Alex wasn’t just a son. He was exceptional. She said he had a way of lighting up every room and that she trusted his judgment completely.
