According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, June 22, 2026, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has accused detained activist Omoyele Sowore of consistently making a career out of insulting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Igbokwe made the allegation while reacting to recent developments involving the activist’s ongoing legal challenges and his continued criticism of the President on social media platforms.
The APC chieftain’s comments followed Sowore’s remand in custody over alleged failure to comply with court proceedings related to his ongoing trial.
Reports indicate that Omoyele Sowore was on Monday remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre by an Abuja Federal High Court after he allegedly refused to appear before the court in a case connected to statements he made on his social media accounts.
The matter is part of a legal process in which the activist is being prosecuted over comments he reportedly made about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which he allegedly referred to the Nigerian leader as a criminal.
The court’s decision to remand him has since generated public discussion on social media and within political circles.
According to available details, the prosecution maintains that Sowore’s actions amount to contempt of court and a refusal to respect judicial proceedings.
The case forms part of a broader legal dispute involving statements made by the activist in relation to the President.
His detention at the Kuje facility came after the court issued an order for his remand pending further proceedings in the case.
The situation has continued to attract attention due to Sowore’s history of activism and public criticism of government officials.
Reacting to the court’s decision, Joe Igbokwe took to his official Facebook page to express support for the ruling and to restate his criticism of the activist.
He described the court’s action as appropriate, insisting that Sowore’s conduct over time had gone beyond acceptable civic engagement.
Igbokwe argued that repeated public attacks on the President and state institutions do not constitute legitimate political expression or professional engagement, as claimed by the activist’s supporters.
The APC chieftain further alleged that Sowore has repeatedly acted outside the boundaries of the law through various public demonstrations and protest activities.
He referenced several instances of street protests organized by the activist, claiming that such actions have at times disrupted public peace and challenged law enforcement authorities.
Igbokwe also accused Sowore of making inflammatory statements, including alleged remarks concerning security issues in the South-East region, which he said were inappropriate and unacceptable.
He maintained that Nigeria operates under the rule of law and cannot be described as a lawless society where individuals act without consequences.
According to him, all citizens are expected to respect legal institutions and procedures regardless of their political views or activism.
He also insisted that continuous verbal attacks on the President and state authorities should not be normalized or considered a legitimate form of professional or political activity.
He said, “Nigeria is not a lawless country. Sowore has taken the law into his hands for years now. Protests on the streets, disturbing public peace, abusing law enforcement officers, encouraging killers in the South East, abusing PBAT, these are not a career.”
