Moses Paul, the Chairmanship Candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has publicly defended former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi against allegations of fraud, describing the accusations as baseless and inconsistent with the character he has personally witnessed over the years.
Paul made the remarks during an exclusive interview on Arise News on Thursday, June 11, 2026, where he was asked to comment on the controversy surrounding recent claims made against Obi.
According to Paul, the allegations do not align with the conduct and values he observed while traveling extensively with the former governor. He stated that he had accompanied Obi on several engagements across the United States and witnessed firsthand situations that, in his view, demonstrated the politician’s commitment to ethical standards.
Reflecting on their travels, Paul recounted multiple occasions during which Obi allegedly rejected financial offers made to him during public engagements and meetings. In his words, “Last year alone, I was in seventeen states with Peter Obi; just in America alone, I can tell you that there are some places where he was offered money and he walked out.”
The AMAC chairmanship candidate said the experience reinforced his belief that Obi remains a politician known for discipline and personal integrity. He argued that the former governor’s actions during those trips contradicted suggestions that he would engage in fraudulent activities for personal gain.
The defamation suit filed by the former governor seeks substantial damages and is expected to test the credibility of the allegations in court. Legal analysts note that the case could attract significant public attention due to the prominence of the individuals involved and the political implications surrounding the dispute.
