According to reports by Daily Post on May 26, 2026, Primate Elijah Ayodele has fired a fresh broadside at the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the deteriorating security situation across Nigeria, accusing the government of lacking the political will to confront the crisis decisively.
In a statement released through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric alleged that both the federal government and the nation’s security chiefs are fully aware of the individuals and groups driving insecurity in Nigeria but have deliberately refused to act against them.
Ayodele traced the roots of the crisis to the political elite, alleging that some politicians once weaponised armed groups for electoral purposes and subsequently lost control of them — a recklessness that has since spiralled into a full-blown national emergency.
“The Nigerian government isn’t taking the issue of security seriously because it’s looking like a curse to the Nigerian government,” the cleric said. He added that the “secret of insecurity is known to the government and all service chiefs, but they are scared.”
The outspoken cleric went further, implicating some traditional rulers in the insecurity plaguing parts of the country. He questioned why relevant authorities have taken no action against those allegedly connected to the violence, suggesting that complicity runs deep within Nigeria’s establishment.
Ayodele warned that insecurity has graduated from a governance failure into a profitable enterprise, with powerful interests benefiting from the continued instability. He cautioned that unless the Tinubu administration is prepared to take bold, uncomfortable decisions, the crisis will not only persist but deepen.
His remarks come against the backdrop of mounting attacks in several states, with bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs continuing to inflict casualties on civilians and security personnel alike. Communities across the North-West, North-East, and parts of the South-East and Middle Belt regions remain under severe threat, with many displaced persons still unable to return to their homes.
Critics of the Tinubu administration have long argued that the government’s security strategy lacks coherence, pointing to the frequency of attacks despite repeated assurances from the presidency and security chiefs that the situation is under control.
Primate Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, is no stranger to controversy. He has repeatedly made headline-grabbing pronouncements on political and national affairs, with supporters crediting him with accurate predictions and critics dismissing his interventions as grandstanding.
However, his latest statement resonates with many Nigerians who feel abandoned by a government they believe is more preoccupied with political consolidation than with protecting lives and property.
