According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, June 23, 2026, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Imole Campaign Council, supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, have exchanged accusations following the killing of a teenager, Ezekiel Olapade, in Ilobu.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the gate of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat, where one other person was also injured during a shooting episode.

Father of the deceased, Gbenga Olapade, alleged that a man identified as Saheed Tanfeani led a group of armed individuals to the area and opened fire indiscriminately after noticing a man wearing a yellow cap.
He claimed the attackers arrived in a vehicle displaying political campaign colours, while police officers stationed at the secretariat did not intervene.
According to him, his 14-year-old son was struck in the head by a bullet while attempting to assist his mother, who fell while fleeing the scene.
In separate reactions, both the APC and the Imole Campaign Council presented conflicting narratives and also responded to Governor Adeleke’s visit to the bereaved family.
The APC, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, accused the governor of politicising the tragedy, alleging that his visit was turned into a political engagement ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The party also questioned the governor’s remarks on the police investigation, accusing him of making contradictory statements and prematurely assigning blame before the completion of inquiries.
It further criticised what it described as inconsistencies in the handling of the incident, insisting that the matter should be left strictly to security agencies without political interference.
In response, the Imole Campaign Council spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, dismissed the allegations, accusing the APC of exploiting the death for political advantage.
He called for calm and urged security agencies, including the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure fair and unbiased investigations into the incident.
Olajengbesi stressed that democracy should be based on ideas and persuasion rather than violence, adding that the people of Osun State would ultimately decide their leadership through the ballot box.
