According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Friday, June 12, 2026, US President Donald Trump has described recent remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran as “very positive,” according to a report by Axios, signaling continued optimism about the prospects of a potential agreement.
Speaking during a telephone conversation with Axios, Trump said he believes a deal with Iran could be finalized as early as the weekend or by Monday.
He also disclosed that he had requested Iranian officials to publicly clarify reports published by Iranian state media regarding the contents of the proposed agreement, arguing that the reported details were inaccurate.
Earlier on Friday, Trump shared a statement from Araghchi on his Truth Social platform.
The Iranian foreign minister had posted on X that “The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer,” referring to a possible agreement between the United States and Iran.
In the same message, Araghchi urged media organizations to avoid speculation about the contents of the negotiations while discussions remain ongoing.
“Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content.
In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course,” he said.
Despite describing Araghchi’s statement positively, Trump earlier criticized reports circulating in the media about the negotiations. He accused Iran of leaking information that did not reflect the written terms under discussion.
“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing,” Trump wrote on social media.
He further stated: “What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth.”
Negotiations between the two countries remain ongoing, with both sides yet to announce a final agreement.
