According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday April 21, 2026, an Iranian oil tanker has reportedly entered Iranian territorial waters after allegedly evading a U.S.-enforced naval blockade, based on a statement from Iran’s military authorities.
The tanker, named “Silly City,” is said to have completed its journey overnight after travelling through the Arabian Sea and successfully reaching Iranian waters. Iranian officials claimed the vessel arrived under full protection, with naval support reportedly provided by the Islamic Republic of Iran Army during the final stage of its approach.
In its statement, Iran’s military alleged that the ship continued sailing despite multiple warnings issued by the United States Navy during its passage. Officials further stated that the tanker did not comply with attempts to stop or redirect it and instead proceeded until it eventually reached a port in southern Iran several hours after crossing into national waters.
The incident comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following the introduction of a naval blockade earlier in April. The measure forms part of wider U.S. efforts to increase pressure on Iran after diplomatic negotiations between both sides failed to achieve progress on long-standing disagreements.
The restrictions have mainly focused on strategic maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit corridors. Increased naval presence in the area has already resulted in several confrontations at sea, including interceptions and inspections of vessels suspected of carrying Iranian-linked shipments.
While U.S. authorities maintain that the blockade is being successfully enforced, there are emerging reports suggesting that some vessels may still be managing to bypass restrictions and continue operations. These developments have raised concerns about the overall effectiveness of the maritime strategy.
Iran, meanwhile, has strongly condemned the blockade, calling it illegal and provocative. Tehran has warned that continued disruption of its shipping activities could provoke further responses and escalate tensions in already sensitive waters.
