Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has raised concerns over the activities of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the governor has taken control of political structures previously associated with him.
Fayose made the comments during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, June 22, 2026.
According to him, the alleged interference in the party’s internal arrangements contributed to the PDP’s disappointing outcome in the recently concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.
The former governor stated that the actions of some party leaders, particularly regarding control and influence within the PDP, have affected the party’s ability to remain united and competitive.
He argued that internal disagreements and struggles over party structures played a major role in the party’s electoral setbacks.
During the interview, Fayose also spoke about his relationship with Governor Makinde, pointing out that he is 11 years older than the Oyo State governor.
He suggested that their age difference should encourage a level of respect in their interactions.
Fayose acknowledged that Makinde had achieved financial success early in life but stressed that he had also built a steady and successful career through consistency and dedication.
“I am 11 years older than Makinde. He was a small boy when he said he made his first million. I did not make millions, but I was consistent in life and doing well,” Fayose said.
His remarks have sparked renewed conversations about leadership, unity, and the future direction of the PDP as the party continues to face internal challenges and seeks to strengthen its political position.
