According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers closed out their Premier League seasons with a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor, in a meeting between two already-relegated sides that still featured moments of quality despite the lack of stakes beyond pride.
The match began with early controversy when VAR intervened to award Wolves a penalty after Florentino Luís was judged to have handled the ball inside the area. Adam Armstrong took responsibility from the spot and converted confidently, sending Max Weiß the wrong way to give Wolves an early advantage.
Burnley responded by taking control of possession for long spells in the first half, but they struggled to create clear openings against a disciplined Wolves side.
The visitors remained a threat on the counterattack, with Mateus Mané going closest to doubling their lead after curling a fine effort towards goal, only for Weiß to produce an excellent fingertip save that pushed the ball onto the post.
Wolves continued to look dangerous before the break, and Hugo Bueno also came close from close range, but Burnley’s goalkeeper was alert to deny him with a quick reaction save.
Burnley’s only real opening of the half came in stoppage time, but José Sá dealt comfortably with the attempt to preserve Wolves’ lead at half-time.
After the restart, Burnley improved noticeably and found their equaliser through Zian Flemming. The midfielder controlled space at the edge of the box and produced a composed side-footed finish beyond Sá to bring the hosts level and energise the home crowd.
The goal shifted momentum towards Burnley, who pushed forward in search of a winner. Hannibal Mejbri was central to their best move, driving through midfield and creating a chance that forced Sá into a decisive intervention to keep Wolves level.
Wolves gradually regained structure and stability as the second half wore on, limiting Burnley’s opportunities and ensuring the contest remained finely balanced. Despite late pressure, neither side was able to find a decisive goal in the closing stages.
The draw confirmed Wolves’ difficult campaign, finishing bottom of the Premier League after a season defined by poor away form, while Burnley ended their relegation season with a point that did little to soften the disappointment of their overall struggles.
