Umar Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has raised concerns over what he described as the concentration of major federal infrastructure projects in Lagos State, arguing that national resources are being disproportionately allocated to the region.
In an interview with NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Sunday, May 3, 2026, Sani referenced key projects such as the ₦15 trillion coastal highway and the ₦2.8 trillion Badagry–Sokoto superhighway, which he said involved an advance funding component of about $516.33 million, noting that they all appear to have Lagos as a central starting point.
He further argued that President Bola Tinubu, who he said began his tenure with an estimated approval rating of about 36 percent, has seen declining public support due to what he described as the absence of clearly identifiable national projects spread across different regions of the country.
In his words,
“Name—one project—that you will say, “This is Tinubu’s national project.” There are projects, of course, but they are all in Lagos. Nigeria’s money is spent in Lagos: the N15 trillion coastal road is in Lagos; the N2.8 trillion Badagry-Sokoto superhighway, which they collected $516.33 million for—they always start from Lagos.”
