Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has paid a condolence visit to the family of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, who was allegedly killed by political thugs during a violent incident in the state.
The governor disclosed the visit in a statement shared on his social media handle on Sunday, expressing grief over the teenager’s death and sympathising with survivors of the attack.
“Today, I visited the family of late Ezekiel Olapade, a 14 years old boy who was gruesomely murdered by opposition’s political thugs and also met with survivors of Sunday attack,” Adeleke said.
He described the killing as a senseless act of violence, stressing that no individual should lose his or her life because of political activities.
“My heart goes out to the bereaved family and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. No life should be lost because of politics, and I pray that God grants the family the strength to bear this painful loss,” the governor stated.
Adeleke maintained that residents of Osun State would not be intimidated or coerced through violence, insisting that political power should only be sought through democratic means.
“Let it be clear: Osun people cannot be intimidated, silenced, or forced into submission through violence. Those who seek power must do so through the ballot, not through bloodshed. No amount of brigandry can diminish the resolve of our people or weaken our collective commitment to democracy and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
The governor further revealed that he had directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the killing.
“Again, I have directed security agencies to ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted. Justice must prevail. We will continue to stand for peace, defend the rights of our people, and remain focused on delivering good governance,” Adeleke added.
He expressed optimism that Osun State would overcome its current challenges and continue on the path of development with the support of its people.
