According to a report by PUNCH on 2nd May 2026, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has secured the APC nomination form for the 2027 general elections, positioning himself for the Kogi Central senatorial race.
Despite his ongoing ₦110 billion fraud trial, Bello reportedly obtained the nomination forms on Saturday, being widely regarded as the APC’s consensus candidate for the election.
Bello had previously served two terms as governor of Kogi State, before passing the mantle to the current governor, Usman Ododo.
He is anticipated to compete against the sitting senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the Peoples Democratic Party.
The report generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians who shared different opinions. While some expressed support for the former governor’s ambition, others raised concerns regarding his pending legal case. Here are some reactions:
Someone wrote, “The form was bought for him by Kogi Central women, because he is their choice for 2027.”
Another person wrote, “Why should a man who is on EFCC watchlist pick a nomination form??”
