In a recent interview on Signature TV, Treasures Timi Dare, a media and communications expert and public affairs analyst, weighed in on possible political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting the need for strategic alliances within the opposition.
Dare stated, “Peter Obi and Amaechi should be considered for president, while Kwankwaso or El-Rufai as vice president,” outlining what he described as a balanced ticket capable of appealing to both southern and northern voters.
According to Dare, the opposition must move beyond fragmented ambitions and focus on building a unified front if it hopes to challenge the dominance of the ruling party. He argued that selecting candidates with national appeal and administrative experience would be crucial in gaining voter confidence.
He noted that figures like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi bring significant political weight from the southern region, while leaders such as Rabiu Kwankwaso and Nasir El-Rufai could strengthen northern support if considered for the vice-presidential slot.
Dare further emphasized that such a combination would reflect the country’s diversity and respect the informal zoning arrangement, which he described as vital for maintaining political stability and national cohesion.
He added that beyond personalities, opposition parties must also address internal conflicts and present clear policy alternatives to the electorate, noting that unity and discipline would determine their chances in the 2027 elections.
Dare concluded by urging political stakeholders to prioritize competence, inclusiveness, and national interest, stressing that only a well-coordinated strategy would position the opposition as a credible alternative to the current administration.
