In a recent interview on Channels TV, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Franklyne Edede, Co-convener of the Occupy Federal High Court protest, shared his views on the political direction of Nigeria and the prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections. The discussion centered on governance, economic challenges, and the role opposition leaders could play in shaping the country’s future.
Edede argued that many Nigerians are increasingly concerned about issues such as insecurity, inflation, unemployment, and the rising cost of living. He maintained that citizens are searching for alternative leadership options that can address these challenges and restore confidence in the nation’s institutions.
Speaking during the interview, Edede stated, “If we support Atiku, he will rescue this country, and Nigeria will be better again.” He made the remark while expressing confidence in the former vice president’s ability to provide what he described as experienced and inclusive leadership.
According to Edede, Atiku possesses the political experience and national outlook required to tackle the country’s pressing problems. He argued that effective leadership must focus on rebuilding the economy, strengthening security, and creating opportunities for young people across the federation.
The activist further observed that opposition parties have a responsibility to present clear alternatives and policy proposals to Nigerians. He said democratic competition is strengthened when voters are given meaningful choices and opportunities to evaluate different visions for national development.
Edede also stressed the importance of citizen participation in the democratic process, noting that elections provide an opportunity for Nigerians to determine the direction of the country. He encouraged political stakeholders to engage peacefully and respect democratic institutions.
He concluded by expressing optimism that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through effective leadership, national unity, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens across the country in future.
