The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Oluwole Oluyede, has criticised the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state, describing it as one of the most controversial exercises in the country’s democratic history.
Oluyede made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday, where he assessed the political situation in Ekiti State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
According to the PDP candidate, the outcome of the APC primary has exposed deep divisions within the ruling party and created internal challenges that could affect its chances at the polls. He argued that the exercise left many party members dissatisfied and further highlighted what he described as growing cracks within the APC in the state.
Oluyede maintained that contrary to claims by some political observers, the PDP remains active and united in Ekiti State. He said the opposition party has continued to strengthen its structures across the state and remains prepared to offer voters an alternative platform in the next election.
The PDP flagbearer expressed confidence in his party’s prospects, insisting that its members have remained focused despite the political dominance of the APC in recent years. He stated that the level of unity within the PDP demonstrates that the party is still a significant force in the state’s political landscape.
Speaking on governance in Ekiti, Oluyede also criticised the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, claiming that the government has failed to meet the expectations of many residents. He argued that previous PDP administrations recorded achievements that, in his view, had a greater impact on the state’s development.
According to him, many citizens are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the current administration due to what he described as inadequate performance in key areas of governance. He alleged that the government has not done enough to address the needs and aspirations of the people.
Oluyede further contended that public sentiment is gradually shifting as residents evaluate the performance of successive administrations. He maintained that the PDP remains confident of presenting a strong challenge in the governorship election based on its record and vision for the state.
The comments add to the growing political debate in Ekiti as parties intensify preparations for the election. With campaigns expected to gather momentum in the coming months, political stakeholders are likely to continue exchanging views on governance, party leadership and the future direction of the state.
Meanwhile, the APC has continued to defend its leadership and policies, insisting that its administration remains committed to delivering development projects and improving the welfare of residents across Ekiti State.
