Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly tracking Porto winger William Gomes ahead of a potential summer transfer move, with several other European heavyweights also registering their interest in the 20-year-old Brazilian as reported by Metro on Friday May 29, 2026
Gomes enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Portuguese top flight this season, contributing eight goals in 28 league appearances as Porto clinched the league title.
His performances have drawn widespread attention, with scouts across the continent now monitoring his progress closely.
The youngster has frequently been compared to Luis Diaz, the Colombian forward who made his name at Porto before securing a lucrative switch to Liverpool and later Bayern Munich.
Gomes has been described as sharing many of Diaz’s qualities, including sharp dribbling, explosive pace and a clinical left foot, attributes that have made him one of the most exciting young wingers in European football.
According to reports, United, Arsenal and Newcastle United have all made enquiries regarding his availability, while Roma and Atletico Madrid are also keeping a close eye on the situation. Despite the mounting interest, no formal bids have been submitted as of yet.
Porto are understood to be keen on retaining Gomes for at least another season. The player carries a release clause of €80 million, though reports suggest the Portuguese club could consider offers for considerably less than that figure.
Meanwhile, United have been particularly active in pursuing Brazilian talent this summer.
The club have already agreed a fee with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson and are also said to be exploring a deal for Botafogo’s Danilo, with several other clubs competing for the midfielder’s signature.
