According to a report by The Punch on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Returning Officers for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election have arrived at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
Their arrival marks the commencement of the final collation and declaration of results for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The ongoing exercise serves as the concluding phase of a high-stakes nationwide primary. Voting kicked off on Monday across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Party officials are working to wrap up the compilation, after which the ultimate winner of the fierce opposition ticket will be formally announced.
Three heavyweights are locked in the race: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and renowned economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Ahead of the direct primary option, rumors circulated regarding a potential consensus candidate. However, all three politicians rejected the proposal, choosing to test their popularity via the ballot box.
Returning officers from states such as Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Kebbi have submitted their respective results.
Representatives and monitors from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are on the ground, with dedicated seating allocated inside the central collation hall.
The high-stakes election is occurring amid heavy internal controversy. Mohammed Hayatu-Deen announced a complete boycott of the final declaration event, citing widespread vote-rigging across multiple states.
Despite his public protest, the ADC leadership maintains that the electoral process is transparent and credible.
Party executives confirm that the counting of votes will proceed as scheduled throughout the day to determine who will challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
