Abdulmumin Jibrin, a previous member of the House of Representatives, has expressed that support from northern politicians for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should stay strong. He believes that turning away from the president, after the backing he got from the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, would represent a significant political treachery.
Jibrin shared his views during a discussion on TVC News, where he addressed political alliances in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, as well as the connection between Buhari’s political supporters in the North and Tinubu’s government.
In the interview, Jibrin mentioned, “Our unity has always been strong. We do not need to focus on Buhari now. If the whole North that stood by Buhari for many years does not back Tinubu, it would be the greatest betrayal in political history.”
The former politician asserted that Tinubu was instrumental in Buhari’s rise to power and his election wins, especially during the establishment and strengthening of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that northern political leaders should allow loyalty and respect for partnerships to influence their choices as discussions about the upcoming election continue to gain traction.
Jibrin pointed out that Tinubu has made considerable sacrifices for both the APC and Buhari’s government over time, emphasizing that many political figures in the North acknowledge the president’s role in upholding the party’s national framework.
