Elder statesman and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, has claimed that there are efforts by certain politicians from Southern Nigeria aimed at undermining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential elections.
As reported by Daily Trust on Monday, May 25, 2027, Osoba voiced his concerns during the announcement of the APC presidential primary results in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He cautioned party members not to be misled by assertions that Tinubu lacks significant challengers, emphasizing that the ruling party must seriously prepare for the upcoming election.
He stated that some Southern politicians may run for president to split votes that would typically support Tinubu. He pointed out former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Jonathan as individuals potentially involved in these alleged plans.
Osoba called on APC supporters to stay united and engage voters in anticipation of the 2027 election. He also commended Tinubu for what he referred to as developmental initiatives undertaken in Ogun State by the current government.
During the Ogun APC presidential primary, Tinubu received 322,485 votes from the 20 local government areas in the state, while his rival, Stanley Osifo, received no votes.
In his statement, he said, “There is a significant coalition against us. They are scheming to present multiple candidates from our Southern region. Obi has surfaced, Jonathan is patiently observing, and Makinde.”
