According To Vanguard On Thursday 16 April, 2026, Despite mounting pressure from opposition parties, Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed confidence that major voting blocs in Kano State and Katsina State are firmly aligned with the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda made the assertion during a media chat with journalists in Abuja, where he also dismissed concerns that the increasing wave of defections from opposition parties into the APC could trigger internal implosion within the ruling party. He maintained that the development should instead be seen as a reflection of the APC growing political strength and national acceptance.
According to him, the party has built resilient internal structures capable of managing its expanding membership base without compromising unity or discipline. He stressed that the APC leadership remains focused on consolidating its influence across key regions while ensuring that new entrants are effectively integrated into the party system.
Speaking on the party electoral prospects, the chairman identified Kano as a critical stronghold, noting its strategic importance in determining outcomes in the North West. He described the state as both politically influential and demographically significant, adding that the APC continues to enjoy widespread support there despite opposition efforts to make inroads. I can assure you that Kano is a given to us as APC, and it is a swing state in the North West, he said, adding that major voting blocs, including Katsina, were firmly in the party corner.
He further noted that the APC remains confident of retaining its dominance in the region, citing ongoing grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with key stakeholders. Yilwatda remarks come at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying across the country, with parties repositioning and strategising ahead of the 2027 elections.
