Lisa Stephen, a survivor of a recent attack in Jos has recounted the terrifying moment gunmen stormed her community, leaving families in grief and shock.
Speaking during an interview on Channel 4 News, Stephen described how the attack happened in the middle of the night when residents were asleep and unprepared. Her account highlights growing concerns about insecurity in Plateau State, where repeated violent incidents have continued to affect local communities.
Recounting her ordeal, she said, “I was asleep at night when we heard gunshots. I tried to wake my husband, but he would not wake up. My baby was breastfeeding at the time, I tried to wake my husband but he didn’t respond.” Her words capture the fear and confusion of that moment, as she struggled to understand what was happening while caring for her child.
Stephen explained that the sound of gunfire caused panic throughout the area, forcing many residents to flee for safety. In the chaos, families were separated and several people were unable to escape the attack. Survivors have since been left to deal with the emotional and physical impact of the violence.
Community leaders have called for urgent action from security agencies to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable residents. Although authorities are yet to release full details of the incident, there is increasing pressure for improved security measures in affected areas.
