According to Jerusalem post, United States President Donald Trump has said the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran is “very close” to ending, raising cautious optimism as a fragile ceasefire continues to hold and diplomatic efforts resume.
Speaking during an interview with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday, Trump expressed confidence that the prolonged hostilities could soon come to a conclusion. “I think it’s close to over, yeah. I view it as very close to being over,” he said.
The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic momentum, with United States and Iranian officials expected to return to the negotiating table later this week. Talks had stalled over the weekend following discussions in Pakistan, but both sides have indicated a willingness to continue engagement.
Despite the apparent de-escalation, the situation remains tense. Earlier this week, Trump ordered a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports, a move seen as an attempt to increase pressure on Tehran while maintaining leverage in negotiations. The blockade followed a temporary pause in airstrikes, which had intensified earlier in the conflict.
Trump emphasized that military operations have not fully ceased, warning that the United States retains the capability to inflict long-term damage if necessary. “If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country. And we’re not finished,” he said, underscoring Washington’s hardline stance even as peace efforts progress.
Vice President JD Vance confirmed that recent diplomatic engagements yielded some progress, though a comprehensive agreement remains elusive. “A lot of progress” has been made, Vance noted, adding that the next steps largely depend on Iran’s response. “The ball is very much in their court,” he said.
The conflict, which has drawn international concern due to its potential to destabilize the broader Middle East, has seen periods of intense escalation followed by intermittent ceasefires. Analysts say the current two-week truce offers a critical window for diplomacy but caution that any misstep could reignite hostilities.
As negotiations prepare to resume, global attention remains fixed on whether both sides can translate tentative progress into a lasting agreement. For now, Trump’s remarks suggest a belief within the United States administration that an end to the conflict may be within reach, though significant challenges remain before a formal resolution is secured.
