During a recent appearance on TV Platinum, , a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its National Coordinator of Diaspora Affairs, addressed ongoing concerns regarding the involvement of the (INEC) in the party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the interview, Dalung raised allegations against , suggesting that there had been attempts to create conditions that could jeopardize the ADC’s participation in the forthcoming elections. He stated, “He thought ADC would fall into his ambush so he could push us out of 2027 election,” indicating what he described as a deliberate effort to undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
Dalung emphasized that the ADC has consistently complied with all constitutional and electoral guidelines required by law. He explained that the party duly issued statutory notices ahead of its ward, state, and national congresses, as well as its convention, thereby demonstrating adherence to due process. According to him, these steps affirm the party’s eligibility to participate fully in the electoral cycle.
He further noted that the ADC leadership anticipated potential legal or procedural challenges and took proactive measures to avoid any missteps that could be used as grounds for disqualification. This, he said, reflects the party’s strategic planning and commitment to maintaining its standing within Nigeria’s political system.
Highlighting broader democratic principles, Dalung argued that no institution has the authority to arbitrarily exclude a political party that has fulfilled all legal obligations. He maintained that the interpretation and enforcement of electoral laws fall within the jurisdiction of the courts, not administrative bodies.
The former minister also stressed the importance of fairness in political competition, noting that attempts to weaken opposition parties through procedural tactics undermine the integrity of the democratic process. He called on relevant stakeholders to uphold transparency and ensure equal treatment for all political parties.
In conclusion, Dalung reaffirmed the ADC’s readiness to contest in the 2027 general elections. He urged authorities and political actors alike to respect the rule of law and provide a level playing field that allows democracy to thrive.
