According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has taken a critical stance against supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, referring to them as “monsters” and cautioning that their actions could negatively affect his chances in the 2027 elections.
Dabiri-Erewa made her views known through a series of posts shared on X on Sunday, where she expressed concern over the conduct of Obi’s supporters, widely referred to as Obidients.
She suggested that the behaviour exhibited by the group reflects on the former presidential candidate and carries implications for his political trajectory.
In her comments, the NiDCOM chairman stated that Obi cannot be separated from the actions of his supporters, maintaining that he bears responsibility for how they engage with others, especially in the public space.
Her remarks underscored the connection she drew between political leadership and the conduct of followers.
She continued by restating her position in additional posts, emphasizing that unless the situation is addressed, the actions of Obi’s supporters could have consequences for his future political aspirations.
According to her, the pattern of behaviour being displayed may present challenges that could influence perceptions ahead of the next election cycle.
Dabiri-Erewa also responded to criticism directed at her for engaging with individuals online.
She defended her decision to reply to comments on social media, dismissing suggestions that her role as a public official should prevent her from interacting with critics or responding to attacks.
Her statements came after reactions from supporters of Obi to an earlier message she posted regarding her engagement with Nigerians based in Silicon Valley, California.
The post had drawn responses that prompted further exchanges between her and some of the supporters.
“While in Silicon Valley, California, I met with incredible Nigerian professionals with a passion to contributing to Nigeria’s growth.
“I could not leave Silicon Valley without a ride in a driverless car. Special thanks to Kunle Adeyemo for the ride and the tour,” she tweeted.
