According to a video posted on CBN News, on Saturday June 20, 2026, President Donald Trump described how close Iran had come to completing a nuclear weapon prior to the recent military strikes, telling Axios News that the country was approximately one month away from finishing the process before American airstrikes intervened.
Trump explained that Iran had accumulated enriched nuclear material at an underground facility, which he said was the primary target of strikes carried out using B-2 stealth bombers.
He described the material as being in an advanced state of readiness, suggesting that very little additional work would have been required for Iran to produce a functional weapon.
In his words, Donald Trump said, “All that enriched material, they were one month away. It was right there. They could have walked down. They can’t do that. Anyway, the B2 bombers did their job with those great pilots.”
The president said the strikes successfully destroyed the facility, with the underground structure collapsing as a result of the bombing.
He credited the pilots involved in the operation for executing the mission successfully, framing the strikes as a precisely timed intervention that prevented Iran from crossing the final threshold toward nuclear weapons capability.
Trump tied this account to his broader argument that the timing of the strikes was critical, suggesting that any further delay could have allowed Iran to complete its program.
He reiterated his belief that Iran’s leadership would have used a completed weapon against Israel, framing the operation as a necessary and time-sensitive intervention rather than a broader war effort.
