According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Channels Television on Sunday, June 21, 2026, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, said every Nigerian has the constitutional right to seek elective office, but stressed that political ambition should not come at the expense of loyalty and trust among allies.
Speaking during an interview, Fayose addressed his differences with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and recalled their association within the G5 group. He said disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and issues relating to leadership and party structure contributed to the strained relationship between both politicians.
Fayose maintained that no one should be denied the opportunity to aspire to the presidency, but emphasized that political relationships should be built on mutual respect and confidence. According to him, “He has the right to contest for president, but he shouldn’t betray trust; we are all members of the G5.”
The former Ekiti governor stated that trust remains an important element in politics and warned that actions perceived as betrayal could damage long-standing alliances. He added that leaders should honour commitments and respect the contributions of those who supported them.
Fayose further expressed confidence that future political developments would reveal the consequences of decisions made by key actors within the opposition party.
