Tunde Bakare, a grieving father residing in Oreta, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has recounted the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the violent attack that claimed the life of his twenty-two-year-old son, Abdulmalik. The young tailor was fatally shot when suspected cultists invaded the area.
According to an interview posted by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, June 21, 2026, while recounting the tragic evening, he stated, “my wife had stepped out to relieve herself, but by the time she returned, they had already shot him.” The mother was also shot.
The devastating incident occurred around eight o’clock in the evening after local rival groups clashed over land money earlier that day. The situation escalated drastically when armed boys stormed the neighborhood, shooting indiscriminately at residents and destroying several shops within the vicinity.
Abdulmalik was completely innocent and had only gone to the shop to assist his mother. He was a calm young man who had just scored two hundred in his university tertiary matriculation examination and was preparing to rewrite a deficient subject before his life was cut short.
The local police have since launched an investigation into the horrific incident and have successfully arrested six suspects. The case has been transferred to Panti for further interrogation, while the community continues to demand justice and a permanent end to recurring cult violence.
Bakare expressed immense trauma over the loss, explaining that he could not even bring himself to view his son’s body. He insists that the law must take its full course against the perpetrators, refusing to settle the matter amicably despite pressure from local residents.
