The Kwara Young Progressive Forum and Good Governance Initiative has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the national and state levels to reconsider and reverse its decision to withdraw the endorsement of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as the party’s governorship candidate in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued by its Convener, Dr. Adams Abdulwahab Opeyemi, the group warned that the APC could risk losing Kwara State to the opposition if the decision is not reviewed.
The forum described Seriki as a loyal, competent and committed party member whose contributions to the growth of the APC in Kwara and nationally should not be overlooked.
It expressed concern over what it termed the unfair treatment of the businessman and philanthropist, noting that such actions could undermine confidence among party members and strengthen opposition forces.
The group maintained that Seriki remains the APC’s strongest electoral asset in Kwara, citing his grassroots appeal, record of job creation, and extensive empowerment programmes across the state.
According to the statement, his involvement in the “O to Ge” political movement, which ended the dominance of the Saraki political structure in Kwara, demonstrated his capacity to mobilise support and deliver electoral victories.
Highlighting his achievements in the private sector, the forum said Seriki has created thousands of jobs and supported vulnerable groups through various empowerment initiatives that have improved livelihoods across the state. It described him as a leader whose actions have had a direct impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.
The forum therefore appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman and other key stakeholders in the party to intervene and ensure that what it described as an anomaly is corrected before the submission of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the group, restoring Seriki’s candidacy would not only reflect the wishes of party supporters but also strengthen the APC’s chances of retaining Kwara State in the 2027 governorship election.
The statement urged party leaders to act swiftly, warning that failure to do so could jeopardise the party’s electoral prospects in the state.
The statement was signed by Dr. Adams Abdulwahab Opeyemi, Convener of the Kwara Young Progressive Forum and Good Governance Initiative.
