According to a report by The Jerusalem Post on Sunday, June 07, 2026, a deadly shooting in Israel’s Sharon region left one person dead and five others wounded on Sunday morning, prompting a large-scale security operation involving police, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the Shin Bet security agency.
Authorities said the attack began near Kochav Yair, close to Kalkilya, and spread across several nearby locations including Tsur Yitzhak, Tzur Natan, and Selait. Security alerts were activated in multiple communities, with residents instructed to remain indoors as forces searched the area.
Police later confirmed that one attacker was killed at the scene. The suspect was identified as an Israeli Arab from Tayibe. A second individual is still being sought in an ongoing manhunt. Security forces also recovered a vehicle with Israeli license plates believed to have been used in the attack, along with a weapon.
Medical responders said a man in his mid-30s was pronounced dead at the scene. Two victims were seriously injured, while three others sustained moderate injuries. All were evacuated to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba and Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva for treatment.
Magen David Adom officials said emergency teams were redirected from a training exercise after reports of the attack. “We immediately stopped the exercise and left with intensive care vehicles and ambulances,” said paramedic Lior Zilberberg.
Senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, carried out situational assessments. Police Commissioner Danny Levy and IDF Central Command leadership arrived at the scene as operations continued.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stated on social media that if attackers are captured alive, they should face execution under Israeli law, referring to legislation passed in March that allows capital punishment for terrorists under specific conditions.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the incident as a “bloody wake-up call,” calling for stronger action against what he described as rising extremist threats.
Hamas praised the incident without claiming responsibility, linking it to broader regional tensions and ongoing conflict dynamics. Israeli authorities continue investigations and security sweeps in surrounding areas.
