According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicles on Monday June 1, 2026, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Jarrod Bowen following West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League, and incoming manager Xabi Alonso is already known to be a long-time admirer of the England international.
One of Alonso’s expected priorities this summer is strengthening Chelsea’s options on the wing. Although the squad contains several wide players, the club is keen to add greater experience, leadership and proven quality in attacking areas.
Chelsea have recently been offered the chance to sign Rafael Leao after the AC Milan forward expressed his desire to leave Italy. However, Bowen has also emerged as a serious target ahead of the transfer window.
At 29 years old, Bowen brings valuable Premier League experience and leadership credentials as West Ham captain. Reports suggest Chelsea believe a deal worth around £40 million could be enough to secure his signature this summer.
Alonso’s admiration for Bowen dates back to his successful spell with Bayer Leverkusen. During their Europa League meeting with West Ham in 2024, the Spaniard openly praised Bowen’s ability and influence in attacking situations.
Speaking before the quarter-final tie, Alonso described Bowen as one of England’s top players, highlighting his goalscoring threat, effectiveness in transition and ability to make decisive contributions in the final third.
Bowen’s profile appears to match exactly what Chelsea are seeking. While Alonso will inherit several wingers, many remain young and inexperienced, including highly-rated prospects expected to feature in the first-team squad next season.
Meanwhile, the futures of players such as Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens remain uncertain, while several of Chelsea’s attacking options are still developing their game at the highest level.
That leaves Pedro Neto as one of the few experienced wingers currently available. However, Chelsea are believed to want additional proven quality to help guide their younger attackers.
With extensive Premier League experience, leadership qualities and a strong record in both domestic and European competitions, Bowen is viewed as an ideal fit for Chelsea’s plans and could represent excellent value if a £40 million deal is completed.
