According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, May 25, 2026, suspected bandits launched a coordinated overnight attack on Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, targeting both the divisional police headquarters and the palace of the Emir, in a violent assault that left parts of the royal residence destroyed and 10 residents abducted.
The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. on May 25, 2026, was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the armed assailants invaded the community in large numbers, striking multiple locations in a coordinated operation. The attackers reportedly set fire to sections of the Emir of Yashikira’s palace, causing significant damage before whisking away 10 residents to an unknown location.
The palace attack sent shockwaves through the community, with residents waking up to the sound of gunfire and flames engulfing parts of the royal compound. Security sources said the attackers appeared to have operated with a high level of coordination, striking both the traditional authority’s residence and the police formation almost simultaneously.
However, the police divisional headquarters in Yashikira was not overrun. The command confirmed that officers on duty engaged the attackers and successfully repelled the assault, preventing what could have been a more devastating breach of the facility.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered a full-scale security response involving police operatives, other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and forest guards. The aim, according to the command, is to rescue the abducted victims and track down those responsible for the attack.
The police described the incident as a serious threat to public peace and vowed a sustained operation against the perpetrators. Authorities also indicated that intelligence-led operations had been deployed to comb surrounding forests and possible escape routes believed to be used by the attackers.
“These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens, and we are fully prepared to hunt them down relentlessly,” the Commissioner of Police stated, underscoring the determination of security forces to respond decisively.
