According to a report by The Vanguard on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the worsening wave of violent crime across Oyo State has taken a grim turn following the tragic killing of an abducted pregnant woman and the individual who attempted to deliver her ransom.
Suspected Fulani gunmen reportedly seized the pregnant woman, her children, and her sibling during a midnight raid in Igboho, located within the Oorelope Local Government Area.
The abductors initially demanded a staggering ₦300 million for their release, which was later negotiated down to ₦150 million.
Despite these active negotiations, the criminals executed both the pregnant mother and the ransom bearer, while keeping at least one other family member in captivity.
This brutal double murder has sparked intense outrage and heightened security anxieties across the community.
Prominent Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, broke his silence during an emotional address to local Fulani leaders.
He accused the herdsmen’s associates of unleashing terror on his ancestral home and declared that such acts would no longer be tolerated.
“You kidnapped a pregnant woman, killed the person who brought the ransom. For what? In Igboho?” Adeyemo questioned.
Consequently, Igboho issued a strict two-hour ultimatum to the community’s Fulani leadership, tracking the victims’ movement from initial locations to a local compound.
He demanded that the remaining captives be freed immediately without any further financial contribution from the victim’s grieving family.
Declaring a total refusal to pay the criminal network, Igboho insisted that the Fulani community must collectively shoulder the responsibility of tracking down their boys and securing the safe return of the surviving children and sibling. Residents now wait in fear as local tensions threaten to boil over.
